Strawberries, Sautéed with Black Pepper and Cognac, over Vanilla Ice Cream

So you've spent the afternoon prepping and cooking and don't feel like making a dessert, but would like to have one anyway? Then this does the trick. Super easy, super quick, and fucking awesome. The sweetness of the strawberries cut with the bite of the black pepper is an unbelievable taste. Jessica and Peter asked me to do this for the dessert at their wedding.

For 6

Ingredients

1 # Strawberries
4 T Butter
¼ t Freshly Cracked Black Pepper
½ + Cup Cognac (or brandy)
Vanilla Ice Cream (whole bean)
Fresh Mint Leaves (for garnish)

Directions

Slice your strawberries somewhat thinly, and set aside.

Put your butter in a sauté pan, over medium to medium high heat. Once the butter starts to melt, add in your sliced strawberries and your freshly cracked black pepper, and sauté until the strawberries begin to soften (about 4 - 5 minutes). As this happens, get a match ready, and pour in your cognac, and fire off the pan (mind your hair). Continue to cook until the alcohol burns off. Reduce the heat to low.

Scoop some of your vanilla ice cream into martini glasses. Gently spoon your strawberry sauce over the top of the ice cream, and garnish with a couple of mint leaves.
